Multi-State Memristors and Their Applications: An Overview

Memristors show great potential for being integrated into CMOS technology and provide new approaches designing computing-in-memory (CIM) systems, brain-inspired applications, trimming circuits other topologies the beyond-CMOS era. A crucial characteristic of memristor is multi-state (also often referred as multibit, multi-level) switching. are capable representing information in an ultra-compact fashion, by storing multiple bits per device. However, certain challenges remain memristive systems design such device stability peripheral circuit complexity. In this paper, we review state art technologies their associated CMOS/Memristor design, discuss regarding imperfection factors, modelling, layout. We present measurement results our in-house fabricated example to further illustrate feasibility applying memristors demonstrate related future applications memories machine learning, neuromorphic tuning circuits, etc. end, summarize past efforts done field envisage direction research.
